The apt building I live in has changed dramatically since the community was sold and new management has taken over. The man who moved into the apt next to us is smoking pot constantly and selling it as well as there is traffic in and out of his apt all hours of the day and all night. The smell of the stuff in the hall smells like 3 skunks peed and when we have to walk through it we get nauseated and get a headache. The smell also gets all over our clothes and then we smell like skunk. It is also coming under the door into my apt. There are 2 apts per floor and 3 floors in each building. I am on the ground floor. I told management there was a strange skunk smell in the hallway and they said they would have the carpet cleaned! Any advice is appreciated. Also prayers, please!!!!!!! Thanks!!

Cops?...call Move...can u? Afraid of retaliation if I call the cops. Our lease is not up until October and we just moved here 2 yrs. ago. However, if this is the type of tenants the new owners are going to lease to, I guess we will have to move in October. I don't know what to do until October. The skunk smell is overwhelming us now and seeping into our apt and I imagine it is only going to get worse in the summer heat. The constant traffic going in and out of the neighbor's apt is very disturbing also. I am fearing for our safety as someone threw a very large rock at our door Saturday night after leaving the neighbor's apt.

why would they throw a rock at your door? Are you in the inner city? Who knows why or what a pot head will do. My dog barks constantly at the people going in and out of the apt next door. Maybe they don't like the barking. Maybe they are trying to drive us out of the apt to make room for a pot smoking buddy. Maybe it is a warning to keep our mouths shut about the stench and traffic next door. (I did complain to the management about the skunk smell in the hallway). I live not far outside the City. I don't feel safe with all the shady characters going in and out of the building at all hours. A few weeks ago someone was shooting apt windows out with a bee bee gun in the complex. I think the management has started taking vouchers which they never did before the property was sold. The local politicians here have introduced a bill trying to make it mandatory that all apts take vouchers and that the County take vouchers from the City as well!! There is going to be nowhere in this State left to move to no matter how far one moves from the City.

Oh, wow... Not fun... One thing that might help with the smell, at least in your apartment, would be candles. My family have a recreation building which we rent out and people often don't follow the rules and so by the end of some of the parties the whole place smells like smoke and chlorine. It is gagging... The candles or incense sticks are the only things that have really helped much... I will definitely be praying for you and your family, Veronica! Please keep us posted...

If there is a common hallway, consider something to absorb odor. If your police department has an anonymous tip line and you are reasonably certain of illegal activity, I would try for that.

Veronica...is the police force a big city force or a local force. I am located in the suburbs and it is a big county police force. I stopped at a police station and they gave me a number for an anonymous tip line. I tried to call the number all day and all I got was a recording. I then called the Narcotic Unit and they gave me a number to call to report non-urgent narcotic activity. I haven't called the number as of yet. I am reluctant to call not knowing what my involvement may be regarding testifying against them, etc.

I am reluctant to call not knowing what my involvement may be regarding testifying against them, etc. You need to write to your local sheriff....not tip lines etc. You need to express in writing that your concern is for YOUR PHYSICAL safety. You are not interested in becoming a witness or attempting to help bust these people...the issue isn't the drugs...its the people who are coming around. If you express this in writing and something happens GOD FORBID IT!...then you have recourse to go to the courts if necessary (and they know this). Im concerned about your safety...not about fighting crime...you are not at all responsible to fight crime. THE SHERIFF is bound BY LAW to protect you (and your Identity). You need to write a sweet and pleading letter addressed directly to the sheriff him(her?) self. Include photos of your self and your pets or whatever...you need to get the Sheriff to care about you personally if hes elected remind him you vote.. The local sheriff is very powerful... follow up the letter with a Phone call. Do not focus on the drugs but the nefarious bad actors coming around. I am telling you this will get results if handled as a personal pleading between you and the sheriff. And I mean the actual sheriff of your county...not the local sargents or detectives or beat cops etc...look up and find out the name and direct address of His office.... for instance this is my Sheriff: www.co.berks.pa.us/Dept/Sheriff/Pages/SheriffEricJWeaknecht-Biography.aspx Now....I dont know if Mr Weaknecht (ironically named-I hope his neck is strong lol) is a good Sheriff...or a poor one...but if I was experiencing what your experiencing...ID PUT HIM TO THE TEST. Give this a shot...let me know...btw are you allowed to own a firearm? (I dont want to know if you already have a gun...that is not my business nor should you say so in a public forum) All Im implying is that if I were you and I was allowed and able to have and use a gun I would have one. And then Id get a sticker and put it on my door pointing it out. Jus saying

Voxx - Thanks for the info regarding the Sherriff. I will run it by my husband and see what he says. I am almost reluctant to report anything as the victim always seems to get blamed. For example, a couple of months ago we bought a new car. I didn't have the car one week when someone smashed the windshield during the night. I called the police and they didn't even want to come out. They wanted me to fill out a complaint on line!! I insisted that they come out. When the officer finally arrived she wanted to know who I had an argument with or an altercation with that they would have smashed my windshield. I told her no one. I do not even know anybody's name around here or even talk to anyone as they are mostly all young people who won't even say hello. Her response was well "it happened to YOUR car". I am 63 yrs old. (At the time this happened there were people shooting windows out of apts with bee bee guns). I am tired of this "blame the victim" stuff. I have checked into moving into an apt for senior citizens but they have income restrictions. I am at the point I would consider moving out of this State all together, but my husband is a teacher and 60 yrs old and getting a job at his age is not promising.

Veronica...I didnt say call the local police...I said contact your Sheriff...that is the best advice your gonna get and it really is a very bad situation. However...even at your age you dont have to be a victim...but frankly you sound resigned to being one...lovingly I say stop...take action. Your real goal is if at all possible...move the hell out of there!

I was just relating my experience with contacting the police in the area over a smashed windshield and then being blamed by the police for it happening. I need to talk to my husband before I contact the Sheriff. We do need to move to another apt, however, our lease is not up until October.

I think you have grounds for breaking the lease! You could contact a lawyer on that. What state do you live in? It sounds liberal.
