Besides movies and using electronic gadgets... What does your family do for recreation? In the winter my family likes to go skiing. We used to go canoeing in the summertime, but have not done that for years now... As a child my father used to read stories to us, but now the only time we read together is after dinner most nights we read a chapter from the Bible. (If a person reads a chapter a day, it takes about 3 year to get through the entire Bible! :-) My family likes to sing together. My father and oldest brother are both Basses, my two other brothers are tenors, my mother and my second oldest sister are both altos, and my little sister and I am sopranos (though I can sing alto also). So we have an octet and used to sing choir hymns and polyphony together. If only they all would convert from the novus ordo we would be able to sing together for Mass! On car trips we would sing for hours and hours! So many fun memories!!! Besides singing, all of my siblings play at least one instrument. Some play the piano, others the trumpet, one the violin, one the cello, one the organ, one an Irish Tin Whistle, my father plays the guitar, and I play the piano, violin and mandolin. My sisters and I play Corelli trios and jigs together, and it is a blast! Besides this, we enjoy board games like Stratego, Chess, Settles of Catan, Scrabble, Boggle, Apples to Apples, Balderdash, and more. Okay... Next person's turn to share!

Rita, your family sounds very nice.
My husband and I enjoy playing cards together, board games too. When the weather is agreeable we take the kayaks out and do some fishing. One of our favorite things to do is to go looking for seasonal nuts and berries. We haven't had too much recreation time since being married, especially now with the baby, but we enjoy being around each other so much that whatever we're doing there is usually much fun had if we are together. Lots of joking, teasing and kidding around, too. We enjoy doing many things, but I wouldn't consider them recreation so much as hobbies and work- like gardening, wine making, woodworking for my husband and various kitchen adventures for me (bread making, fermeting, etc).
Growing up my family did a lot of camping, fishing, and horseback riding.
I wish that music was recreation that was enjoyed by all in my family! Growing up I was the only one inclined towards making music, and my husband can hardly carry a tune, lol. Everyone enjoys hearing me play and sing, but it's not the same as everyone doing it.

not a heck of a lot these days
we like to have family movie nights although we gave that up for lent and havent resumed it
used to enjoy singing at the piano as a family. my hands are not so good anymore so that does not happen as often. i was teaching my son but he goes to lessons with another piano teacher i know.. he is almost done with suzuki book 1 so will have his book 1 graduation at the end of the month, hoping to be able to go
There's a nice park down the street from our apartment sometimes we go there also like to go down to the waterfront and watch the boats go up and down the east river with the Manhattan skyline and all that. it's nice to just watch our son play at the playground
before i went into the hospital last time we had a few nice trips out. now the mrs says it's very hot outside probably too hot
we like to go to the Russian orthdox cathedral near our house and just pray before the tabernacle
Last summer we went to the beach for a few days

We go camping every year, we like taking it easy around a fire in the woods. We also go on road trips from time to time. We visit with other people when we can and we like to have other people over. I particularly like waterfalls, so we usually see those or take hikes to easy ones. We like history and national parks so we try to visit those types of places.
We play board games. We like to try new ones but we mostly play Catan. Then, we don't speak for two weeks.

There is a couple that we get together with frequently and the guys always want to play Catan. I don't have much interest in the game, so I have a hard time getting in to it, and don't put much thought into my strategies. I won the last time we were at their house and it drove them both nuts, the anxiety was plastered to their faces. I should write that down in the history books, because I doubt it'll ever happen again! My husband had never played monopoly when I introduced it to him last winter. The first 5 or 6 times we played it I won, and he'd get raging mad every time, lol. "THIS GAME IS SO STUPID! I"M NEVER PLAYING AGAIN!" he would say. He'd always end up challenging me to a game the next day. Eventually he figured out my strategies and now I lose just as frequently as he does. Board games have a way of bringing out the rage.

We also like to read-aloud. Normally, I read to my children from a chapter book before bed and I might also read a picture book, a well-done one, not just any old thing, to the younger children. I'm picky about what I will read. We also buy or download audiobooks and listen to them in the car, sometimes the kids will listen to them in the house and do a hobby.
My older children read all of the time, I would borrow books from the library but it comes out cheaper just to buy the books used than to pay library fines.

We read a lot at my house, and travel every chance we get--when the funds allow. We've taken lots of road trips. We're into Art museums and History museums. I play a lot of Baroque and Classical CDs at home and while driving, too.

He didn't think he would like it but he did and we would like to go back. We do a lot of history museums and field trips.

Senorita, your family sounds beautiful. We go on the river: swimming, fishing, playing on sandbars and grilling. We also ride bicycles or go for walks. We go to parks a lot and try to find ones we've never gone to, especially after Sunday Mass. In the winter we play cards and board games but they are mostly childrens' games. I will include one thing, just because it happens A LOT at our house...wrestling. In the winter after supper our boys wrestle each other and my husband wrestles them either all at the same time or one on one or two. My little daughter even likes to try, but she ends up getting tickled. It usually happens three times a week at least. We just enjoy our time together as a family. We know it will be gone quickly.

I totally understand about not having as much time after the kids are born... It is funny though... Some of my favorite memories are actually when working on projects with my family! My family had a large strawberry patch which we used to go out pick from and process together every year. My father and I built a storage shed together. A friend of mine and I made trails on our farm for the horse riding, etc. And yes, I am very grateful that my family is musical. It is such a big part of my life because of this!

My parents used to go, but the last time they did was is Alaska when my mother was pregnant with me... One day, hopefully, I will make it!

Lots of laughter... I am not very strategic, so I totally understand this story!!! I am grateful that my parents made us all be trained to be good sports and not care much about losing. It makes games so much more fun when everyone is so!!!
