We read a lot at my house, and travel every chance we get--when the funds allow. We've taken lots of road trips. We're into Art museums and History museums. I play a lot of Baroque and Classical CDs at home and while driving, too. My father likes to travel a lot, so we have done a lot of that in the past too!!! "If it's not Baroque... Don't fix it!"

Senorita, your family sounds beautiful. We go on the river: swimming, fishing, playing on sandbars and grilling. We also ride bicycles or go for walks. We go to parks a lot and try to find ones we've never gone to, especially after Sunday Mass. In the winter we play cards and board games but they are mostly childrens' games. I will include one thing, just because it happens A LOT at our house...wrestling. In the winter after supper our boys wrestle each other and my husband wrestles them either all at the same time or one on one or two. My little daughter even likes to try, but she ends up getting tickled. It usually happens three times a week at least. We just enjoy our time together as a family. We know it will be gone quickly. Great ideas! I will have to try it some time...

I wish we were neighbors. I forgot about the river. Many a good time was had on the river growing up. We liked to set our tubes in the water and float 10 miles downstream. We'd have a cooler designated for drinks and snacks, and we'd stop on the sandbars to play. Such good times!

I know a number of traditional Catholic families who have been starting a catholic village. I would love to live in a solid Catholic community so much!!! My family are great, but none of them are traditional Catholics, so it is tough sometimes...

We do many of the same things as everyone else.....board games, reading together, cards, puzzles, dominoes, scrabble, wrestling (husband and kids....I usually sit on the side and knit), croquet. bocce, listen to the kids sing and play on the key board, tell jokes, or play little word/guessing games. We like to take walks around our property (picking berries, fishing in the pond, checking out the creek), or just sit on the back patio and watch the kids play (skate, ride bikes, slip'n'slide, or play in the hose when it's hot out). Even at night, we like to sit out there, and watch them play evening summer games: kick the can, flashlight tag, hide and seek, frog hunting, fire fly catching. Sometimes we all play volleyball, baseball, football, or frisbee. The kids love it when thier Dad and I make up obstacle courses around the yard for them, or time them for relay races.....we join in the races occasionally. The kids spend a lot of time on the weekends following their Dad around, while he works on various things around our property. They help him tend to the cows and pigs. We work in the garden together. If their Dad is working in the shed, he teaches the kids about whatever he may be fixing/building. He also gives them free reign with his non-power tools, and they tinker around while he works, like little elves. It's funny and cute to sit and watch sometimes. Or, they will play outside around the shed, while he works, building forts and playing in the creek behind the shed. We spend a lot of time outside on our swing set with the kids, too. The kids and I like to bake and cook together, while thier Dad is at work. We will all cook together as a family, too, sometimes. Sundays are usually for visiting with our friends after Mass, then we head home and relax as a family. For not-at-home activities, we like to go to the beach. And, there's a state park not far from our house, so we may go there a couple times over the summer, and play on the river and fish. Once they are older, we can take them canoeing down the river, but we have too many littles for that, yet. This summer, we are renting a cabin a bit further north of us, and doing some hiking. I'm really looking forward to that. The kids like to camp out in our back yard in cooler weather. My husband will take the boys sometimes. I have always been pregnant, or home with the "too young to camp" crowd, so I just join in for the campfire part. We do a lot of bonfires in the winter....the kids love bonfires.

When we have the occasional time for recreation, these are the things we enjoy doing, and some of the memories we have made and treasured over the years. Some of these things technically fall under work, not recreation, too. But, I count it, because any time spent together fostering a strong, healthy family life is good in my book....whether recreational or not.

Hahaha...y'all are too funny. I have to say, too, that it is SO refreshing to hear a wife speak this way about her marriage. More often than not, all we hear are about the struggles and complaints; which, of course are there, too. And, there is a time and a place to discuss these things - for the sake of council and adivce to move past them; but rarely do we hear about the fun and enjoyable aspects. Or, certinly much less. Marriage can truly be a wonderful thing....it should be more often spoken highly of, I think.

i love my marriage it's the whole "adulting" part that gets old... the mortgage, bills living wills homeowners insurance, work. Why does our fridge smell bad even when we clean it top to bottom, should we get our son a dog? (No)
after awhile I could see wanting to play freeze tag
