We've been picking raspberries and zucchini, weeding strawberries, and letting the bees use the broccoli. We still have chard and my daughter planted some peas that should be fruiting soon.

We're picking goji berries and harvesting herbs. That's about it. At some point we'll bury some blackberry canes. Oh, and we've still got a lot of fall bulbs to plant.

If you're like me and wondering what goji berries are.... "Goji, goji berry, or wolfberry (pinyin: gǒuqǐ) is the fruit of either the Lycium barbarum or Lycium chinense, two closely related species of boxthorn in the nightshade family, Solanaceae. The family also includes the potato, tomato, eggplant, belladonna, chili pepper, and tobacco. The two species are native to Asia"

If you do decide to do some research on the flavor of goji berries, I'm here to tell you that they are being too generous in their assessment and recommendation. They aren't sweet. In fact that aren't very tasty at all. They taste similar to a red bell pepper. Apparently they are really good for you, so I'm going to throw them into smoothies where we won't be able to taste them at all.

My husband dug about a bushel of potatoes today. I thought we were done with that, so it was a pleasant surprise! I was also surprised to find a half dozen bell peppers tonight. First frost is tomorrow, so everything besides cold hardy herbs should be done for good after that.

Husband picked the last of the apples and put them in the garage. They aren't good quality, but we'll see if we can do something with them.

What's going on in your garden? Ours is really small this year with only 5 tomatoes plants, 3 pepper plants and a variety of herbs and our perennials. The tomatoes and peppers look great with tons of fruit set on. We got a bumper crop of strawberries, but the rhubarb and asparagus were pitiful. We have a bumper of blackberries this year as well, but we can't beat the birds to the ripe ones. We've really been enjoying our perennial flowers!

Rescued baby robins from my kitty and from going onto the busy road.

I looked at it! That's because I watered it yesterday and was intent on swimming. The garden is next to the pool. I entirely made it (God did, but I rooted plants, rescued plants, and continue to plant). There is a lushness about a garden even if small when varieties of plants comingle. There is one edible plant, oregano.

Rescued baby robins from my kitty and from going onto the busy road. Aw. Life is perilous for baby birds. We've had a nesting pair of robins in the same nest on our front porch since the year we got married (2014). We will be moving this summer, and it does feel sad to leave them behind. We've enjoyed watching their babies hatch, grow, and take flight. When we're tilling up the earth for the garden, they stand near because they know we'll throw them worms! We also have a couple garter snakes that we've grown quite fond of over the past 4 years. We spied them both together hanging out in the bushes just a couple days ago and realized it's likely the last time we will see them. We're both a bit too sentimental about the local wildlife, perhaps. Lol.

I thought about our garden today. My cats ate most of my seedlings and I don't have the variety that I really wanted but it should be somewhat okay.
