If I donate money to this parish where is the money going? There are many expenses to take care of the buildings, the Church and rectory such as heat, electric, repairs, etc. The priest also receives a salary, and in many cases has a car provided to him. There are also regular expenses pertaining to the liturgy, candles, altar wine, etc. Your donations will all go to that. The eparchy (eastern diocese) does not get any of the money except for the special collection, which they charge every year to each parish. If the parish doesn't meet their goal, the eparchy will take it from the parish account. I do not give to the eparchy, as I am uncertain how much I can trust them. My view is just dont overgive, give them a reasonable amount to maintain the building, and take care of the priest. If they are taking up a special collection for a specific purpose, (roof, furnace, painting the Church, repaying the parking lot, ect.) give extra to that specific collection. That much is reasonable, everything beyond that is not wise, in my opinion.

I've been in so many traditional chapel situations where money might have as well been thrown into a barrel and burned. Without being too nosey, it's pretty easy to see the financial structure of a chapel. It hurt to barely be able to give a donation sometimes and then to watch it be wasted and then go home and sit in a freezing cold house with one or two lights on. I have given money or needed items directly to the priest. Sometimes, I've also helped other Catholics who would have otherwise asked for something from the poor box. Another thing that is nice is to donate your time, landscaping, baking, special events, etc.

To be frank the ukrainians and byzantines parishioners Ive know have been some of the most frugal and protective of their funds...ie that they stay in the parish and its almost always for the upkeep and provision of the Priest that they focus. Of course social events can be dicey...like paying for bustrips to casinos ...or scandelous entertainment ( my example is they once hired an elvis impersonator)...but on balance...financially the easterners are respectable.

While I am perfectly happy to sit and sing from the pew, I was just curious if female cantors are verboten in the Eastern rite or does it vary from church to church?
