Someone asked me about the veracity of the St. Athanasius quote that the Church will be reduced to a handful. This issue was looked at on the Bellarmine Forums years ago: sedevacantist.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=197

I had a copy of that quote way before the Bellarmine Forums were ever found. Some people try to say they are doubtful, but that is because the quote makes them uncomfortable with their own agenda.

Yes, it has been around for awhile, but that doesn't mean that it actually came from St. Athanasius. The discussion on Bellarmine forums merely discusses a source. If you are going to suggest that it makes people uncomfortable because they have an agenda, then it is fair to say as well that there are some who might be uncomfortable with the truth that they could possibly be citing a quote and attributing it to a saint who never said it. Anyhow, who are these people who are uncomfortable about this quote? If someone has an agenda I'd like to know who they are.

I remember the quote from decades ago, going back to the 90's. The fact that there is a source given, doesn't mean it's in that source. Mr. Lane gave a link to the alleged source and it's not there, and posted the text that it is purportedly in, and it is noticeably absent, making the whole matter fishy.

If one was a Traditional Catholic believing that Francis is a bonafide pope such as SSPX, I think it would make them feel uncomfortable knowing that "Even if Catholics faithful to Tradition are reduced to a handful, they are the ones who are the true Church of Jesus Christ."
Also, how does one know, especially if the "source" was found on the Internet, it wasn't changed? Or did someone have it printed in a book and it was found to be missing? Just asking, I know not.

Very kind of you, I will take your word; language is not my forte.

I had used that quote a fair bit, before John Lane raised doubts about it. It seems like a "gloss", a bit like "For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory..."!
