About twice a year my husband and I go down to Seacaucus, NJ to visit friends and family. My husband is a non-practicing Catholic so I used to go to the 7:30 am NO Mass in Seacaucus. It's a short drive from the hotel so I feel comfortable driving there but the Mass is a mess. I leave it in a bad mood. So, the last time, I didn't go to Mass, didn't really do anything to keep the day holy.

I don't believe the NO is a valid mass so I wouldn't go there. I would read my missal and listen to a sermon online and possibly read the Bible.

Making Sunday holy when you have to miss Mass.....I fail....every.single.time Just remember next time, the devil is making you fail at making Sunday holy. At the very least offer the entire day to God as soon as you wake up, make a spiritual communion and pray your rosary, even if it's a few decades in the morning, one in the afternoon and finish in the evening or whatever way you feel comfortable with praying the rosary. Remember Our Lady said, "One day the rosary and scapular will save the world."

While there are many practices which are good when you cannot get to mass on Sunday, the bare minimum is that you abstain from servile labor and do not do any unnecessary shopping. You are traveling and sometimes that upsets a routine, don't be so hard on yourself. Maybe set yourself up for success next time by bringing a devotional prayer book or finding a traditional mass elsewhere. The Novus Ordo is garbage, it will only hurt your faith.

Try to call places and verify times, give them enough time to call back-unlike me!

Even when I was a Novus Ordite, if I saw a 'mission statement' that included the words 'celebrate diversity'---I'd run.

I can't fit it into the schedule. There's also a beautiful church in Jersey City which has a TLM that I can't get to...

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions! I'm not a fan of the N.O. but sometimes, it is good. My husband and I were traveling in Ireland last summer and I needed to find a Mass in Dublin. The SSPX were too far away and the diocesan TLM would have been difficult too as we were flying out that day. So I settled for the NO Mass within walking distance of our airbnb apartment. It was lovely, almost like a Low Mass and the church was beautiful!
