I'd like to hear you all's opinion/interpretation of Pope Leo XIII's vision of satan's assault on the Church. Is it historical? Any thoughts on it application to today's crises? www.stjosephschurch.net/leoxiii.htm

I never understood why Pope Leo XIII wrote a long St. Michael prayer but then ordered the shorter one recited after Mass when the longer one is much better.

Perhaps he was such a good Holy Father that he knew a shorter one would be more fitting for the needs of his flock. Remember the Eucharistic fast was from midnight, people walked to mass, and they already were participating in everything surrounding the major feasts and fasts. I'm sure that in his wisdom, he took everything into account. Looking at it form the practical side, if you are pope, and you want priests and laymen to heed you and say the prayer, you are probably going to think of a way to have it done so that it people will lovingly and willingly do it.

Plus memorization considerations.

Could be. I just hope there wasn't a breakdown (intentional or not) in the relaying of orders and all these years we've been saying the wrong one...
