It has been brought to my attention that some people are posting about SBYVL on other forums questioning whether he had a crisis of Faith or possibly something wrong spiritually.
I was just going to stay silent, but as this type of speculation has the possibility of harming a good man's reputation, so I will say here publicly that I talked to SBYVL very recently, and he has a strong Faith and he and I discussed the Catholic Faith. There is no doubt that he is a very strong Catholic, so I hope my statement puts an end to the speculation about him.
He is a good man, I only think well of him, and his reasons for closing the forum, whether temporarily or permantly are his own. I consider him a friend, and a brother in the Faith and whatever has happened on Te Deum has not changed my high opinion of him.

I agree that we should not speculate or start rumours about this situation. I said as much in a discussion on another forum. However, a forum owner has some responsibility to his moderators and members. It is not good to disappear without explanation. It is only natural that people would be concerned and wonder what has happened.
For the most part, comments I have seen elsewhere have not been malicious. I see nothing wrong with those which encouraged people to pray for Sbvyl in case there is something wrong.

I see something wrong with speculating without evidence about ones spiritual life or having problems the Faith.

I see nothing wrong with those which encouraged people to pray for Sbvyl in case there is something wrong. Why did you say then, "there is quite possibly something spiritually wrong." To the best of my knowledge you did not participate regularly on TD and unless I am wrong you have had no one to one contact with Sbyvlius. Yet, you, without knowing him well or being a regular participant on TD felt that it was okay to speculate on his spiritual state? You have no direct evidence for this. What his responsibility is, is your opinion. My opinion is that he had no responsibility to do anything with his forum and that he owes no explanation to anyone regarding his shut down. What I think he should or should not have done does not matter one bit. If people are concerned, they can contact him privately instead of expressing their concerns in such a way that potentially hurts his good name. Sbyvlius is a good man and he loves the Catholic Faith, to portray him any other way is not accurate and it is unjust. Asking publicly for prayers for someone else based on speculation comes across badly and can cast a shadow on their reputation, even if innocently done. I am sorry to be so confrontational but I feel an obligation to speak up in such situations.

Its just a forum Jayne...no one is owed a forum...The people complaining the most are those who did the least to promote TD and create a positive Catholic Community...a person would have to be batshiteee crazy to think CI is a positive Catholic Community...I recently visted because I had heard from others that SBYVL was getting smeared...but as I was reading thst I saw a link that was literally 50% trashing me...I actually found it amusing (and a huge thank you Jayne for you open defense of me...still much appreciated) but that being said I was literally shocked (which is hard to do with my construction worker background) with the level of unchecked invective leveled at you Jayne...and TD in General. That culture of the worst flagrent pharasetical nastiness will NEVER take hold here..not with me at the helm. Ive spent my whole life misunderstood...Ive learned to live with it...but I understand what loyalty...friendship...patience forgiveness...empathy and turning the other cheek is all about. This forum will be a tribute to those concept...by God it will. Anyway Sybyvl is one of the Best Catholics Ive ever met...but hes not a social creature...which isnt a fault by anymeans...so running a social space like a forum can get tiresome. Especially when it gets out of hand. That being said...no one has legitimate claim against SBYVL if he did shut it down. It was a free forum...its sad because it was great...but it was after all just a forum like this one. So in closing I think Jayne your criticism is an emotional reaction. If you think about it.
