Dred Scott was 'the law of the land' too. I find it hard to believe he would lie to the Senate. Perhaps it was a nuanced answer? I have to admit, I'll be very disappointed if his view as simply as he said it.

In my opinion, he is giving a cleverly nuanced answer, so as not to give the wolves a reason to devour him.
To say one accepts the law of the land is not saying that one agrees with it, or will not use their power of their office to change it in the future.
To say one respects precedent does not mean that precedents are set in stone, only that one will be careful before doing so. All judges will show a respect for precedent, even as they overturn it in some cases.
To say that he would have walked out the door if the President wanted him to commit to overturning Roe v. Wade is only saying that he would be disgusted at the precondition forced upon him for being nominated, it says nothing on his actual views against abortion.

Think 2nd level....what is his view on States rights and the constitution? Trying not to be pessimistic about it since I learned he was I believe a member of the CFR for 5 years.

Hey well I think we Trads are really being silly expecting too much of Trump...Im just glad hes not a queer muslim or psychopathic woman Personally I'd rather fight an open liberal than a secret liberal. Secret liberals can do a lot of damage, too. I don't know what I think of this whole healthcare facade. "Every year, the Republicans bravely voted to repeal Pelosi-you-have-to-pass-it-to-see-what-is-in-it-care, full well knowing that Barry would veto such bill and without a prayer for an override. Now that the possibility of actually repealing this monstrosity exists, the Republicans balk."

Both are for illegal immigration (one for new voters, the other for cheap labor), both are for big government, hence a Kabuki theatre over healthcare. This is why so many Republicans (including Paul Ryan) hate Donald Trump. I believe he truly wants to fix things. He may not succeed but he will try. This bill that Ryan put forward was bad. Maybe we need to wait till Obamacare really breaks down and Trump can get bi-partisan support to fix it so yeah, things will get uglier before they get better.

I thought Trump was pushing for this new Obamacare lite bill, too. As I understand they wouldn't consider Rand Paul's bill, which was completely different. We'll see what happens.
