I am second year of trying to establish a flower garden and work on the landscaping around the yard at our place.
My Dad asked me to put a paver walkway in the back, which was about 50 feet by 2 1/2 feet; each paver being about 6 inches. I never did it before, and wow! It was a lot of work trying to put in the framing and everything. But, thanks to God, I am grateful that it looks half decent.
Now I am waiting to see what plants lived through our harsh winter before I do much more, and then I hope to put in some mulch before summer comes around and I won't have too much time to weed with all the summer horse riding camps...

What kind of bulbs are you planting, Clotilde? I've been trying to beautify the place this spring. I've always had romantic ideas about planting an incredibly attractive perennial flower garden, but I am terrible at planning it. My husband cut down a big maple tree in our front yard last spring, so we dug a big ring around it. Already in front of the stump was a clematis plant that has been there for years. I'm putting a stone bird bath on top of the stump with some low lying red and white annuals in it. Around the stump I'm planting creeping phlox, as they are grow like crazy and I think they'll cover the stump. I've not done those two things yet. I planted yellow delphinium's on the back side of the ring. On the sides I planted Iris. On the front sides I planted mums, and front and center we planted calla lilies. We're so excited about the calla lillies! We planted those in honor of our first year married. They were the main flower at our wedding. We were thrilled to see they made it through the winter. I'm working on my herb garden too. I had herbs scattered around in different plots, and now I'm consolidating them into one. There's not too many plants to move, as not many made it through the winter. Currently I'm waiting on the herbs that self seed themselves to pop up so I can move them. Your garden sounds pretty! I am sure that it really is a lot better than you make yourself believe it to be!

This is future project...maybe not for another year or so due to $$ but I would like to find a lovely outdoor statue of Mary and plant a flower garden area around her. Maybe even a nice bench to create a special, quiet place for prayer. Ah to dream.

I found one that I loved but whoa...pricey! Maybe someday.

I did not have a convenient place in my flower garden to have a statue of Mary, so I got six little pavers, and put a foot high statue of the Holy Family in front of the garden. It has the same effect, but with less work.

Maybe even a nice bench to create a special, quiet place for prayer. Ah to dream. I tried doing this last spring, but I have very little experience with gardening so it was a challenge. I found a statue I liked and put it up in a corner between the house and a fence. I planted a climbing hydrangea against the fence, planning for it to be a background, but there was a frost after I planted it and it was barely alive last year. I'm waiting to see how it over-wintered. Last year, I just planted some white begonias in front of the statue and I suppose I'll do that again. I liked how it looked and it was easy enough to get some flats of flowers and plant them. Eventually, I have some perennials in mind, so I will have to plant bulbs in the fall. I have never done that before so I am a bit nervous. I am really pleased to see all the garden discussion here and hope to learn a lot from you experienced people.

For my Mary I bought expensive silk Roses for the trellis behind her...and we have annuals growing in front of her.

I hunger to revisit my art (painting) but will not do so until my priorities are under control -- in my case, clutter. Taming my clutter is my current project. I shall endeavor to do so artistically until I can return to true art.

I shall endeavor to do so artistically until I can return to true art. My wife is having amazing success with a book called spark joy. Its a bit zen but the author is Japanese...I have seen it really give my wife confidence in attacking clutter...she knows to filter any zen nonsense...and she really is very happy and productive attacking years of clutter.
