In my short while back into the Church, I keep running across something called "invincible ignorance" which I have never heard of. I gather there is much controversy concerning this topic as I keep encountering various meanings being attributed to it. The varying different opinions being attributed to invincible ignorance has caused me to be confused. Can somebody please tell me the true meaning of invincible ignorance? Thanks.

(a) Invincible ignorance, even of what pertains to the natural law, makes an act involuntary, since nothing is willed except what is understood. There appears to be something wrong with this quote. It is not possible to be ignorant of natural law if you have the use of reason i.e. (outside of a head injury, being retarded, drugged or under the age of reason) as it is doctrine that natural law is written on the heart of every man. Do they make the distinction? The only version of this book I have been able to locate is not an original but a re-type. Re-types have proven to be "updated" from time to time by modernists so I don't bother with them. There's an original PDF of an older version on google books but I can't access it directly. books.google.com/books?id=sjAxAAAAIAAJ&focus=searchwithinvolume&q=invincible+ignorance+natural+lawIgnorance of natural law for those with the use of reason seems to be a novelty that spread like wildfire in the 40's & 50's. Modernism was already creeping in at full force by this time. Do you have any other OLDER sources about this topic (invincible ignorance and natural law)? This issue seems to pop up from time to time. Thanks, M.

Severely retarded...the severely mentally ill...these might be whom this refers. Mike (may I call you Mike?) You need to learn proper quoting...clare didnt say the above quote..Ive noticed this in other threads that you have excerpts attributed to the wrong person. I know its not intentional...you need to better learn the quote feature. (that is all...back to topic)

I've never posted on something like this site before soooooo... learning curve. I'll be more careful from now on. Mike? Honestly I'm not wild about that name, it reminds me of the boxing champ from my youth... not a good guy to say the least. Short list of criminal activity... convicted rapist, bit off a man's ear in public, publicly threatened to eat a man's children, has a pagan looking tattoo on his face, is a card carrying Infidel... etc. Not that the name of Mike is by any way sullied. I just don't want to be referred by this name because it reminds me of THAT GUY... who I don't like to be reminded of. You can call me M. if it's easier to type though M.
