I am so sick of Catholics promoting and defending this song. Please bring everything you have from Church sources telling us what Mary knew and when She knew it. I am of the position that the Theotokos knew her role and that of the Messiah from her childhood...the only thing unknown was how God was going to make it happen.

Every time this song comes on the radio, immediately it gets turned off.

I agree with you; I just don't know the song you are referring to. "Mary, Did You Know" is played on every single apparatus that can process sound every December, it seems. I'm surprised you didn't know about the song.

I am not surprised that our members are not in agreement with this putrid ditty...I was hoping for some info about what Mary knew...I base my assertion solely on the assumption of whom I personally hold Mary to be...but there must be some Church quotes on the matter. Pacelli

Pacelli I never heard of this song until now. Each line would have to be examined separately.

Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day walk on water? maybe No...but knew He couldMary did you know that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters? YesDid you know that your baby boy has come to make you new? Denys Immaculate Conception? This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you SameMary did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man? YesMary did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand? maybe No...but knew He couldDid you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod? YesAnd when you kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God YesMary did you know, Mary did you know, Mary did you know The blind will see, the deaf will hear and the dead will live again YesThe lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb YesMary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation? YesMary did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations? YesDid you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb? YesThis sleeping child you're holding is the great I am YesMary did you know, Mary did you know, Mary did you know

This is why I try to stay away from the radio unless it is the classical station... There are so many weird songs out there... CD's and having an ipod means I can listen to music I like! Thanks be to God for that side of technology!

YesThis sleeping child you're holding is the great I am YesMary did you know, Mary did you know, Mary did you know It seems like most of the song is just questions pertaining to future events of Our Lord. No problem there. Regarding Our Lady's knowledge of future events, I am not sure exactly what she did and did not know. The Church has never taught us on this matter. The problematic verses are the ones you honed in on: These verses appear to be at odds with the teaching of the Church on the Immaculate Conception. Our Lady did not need to be made "new" or "delivered" as she was free from original sin and any actual sin. The song has a Protestant undertone anyway, as Catholics always used noble titles for Our Lady, as we recognize her importance in God's Plan, the fact that she is the Mother of God, and lastly Our Queen who rulesr over us. Protestants always speak of Our Lady very informally and casually using her proper name, "Mary," as though she is just one of us. This would explain why they make the doctrinal errors in the song, as Protestants are essentially rebels against the authority of the Churchand will not learn from Her.

Can we not assume a maiden full of Gods grace...would know and understand the prophecys....and can we assume she knew her destiny?

Can we not assume a maiden full of Gods grace...would know and understand the prophecys....and can we assume she knew her destiny? I agree and think it is a reasonable assumption. I would urge Catholic to avoid the song, however, due to its doctrinal error, and it's very casual treatment of Our Lady. I am sure the writers of the song had good intentions, but it highlights yet another reason why Catholics and Protestants can have nothing to do with each other in religious matters, we don't have the same Faith.

I can't stand that song! As a Protestant I thought it was so nice, especially when we sang it in our highschool choir. *face palm*

We only play select Christmas CDs in our home -- no radio drivel.
