I plan on attending at a Ukranian Church, but want to go to a pre-Vatican II validly ordained Priest in the Roman Rite for confession. The reason I want to go to the Roman Rite Priest is that I have real trouble understanding the Ukranian Priest. Also, I went to the Ukranian Priest for confession 2 yrs ago and he absolved me in Ukranian.
My question is there any difference concerning jurisdiction between the 2 Priests which would lead to one Priest being better to go to for confession?

If the priest is able to say the Liturgy and be understood then his confessions should be as well. But you will not offend if you tell the Priest you cannot understand Ukrainian He may not know you cant understand... as many Ukrainian parishioners are bilingual.

Voxxkowalski - The Priest had no know I was not Ukranian as I kept blessing myself in the Roman way. Regardless, I prefer to go to a validly ordained pre-Vatican II Roman Rite Priest for confession unless there is a jurisdiction issue which would preference the Eastern Rite Priest over the Roman Rite Priest.

Fwiw, I think you have a good plan. The older Roman rite priests are excellent confessors. Regarding the jurisdiction issue, I think you are equally safe with either the Ukrainian priest or the older diocesan clergy. For myself, I go to confession exclusively to the old Roman rite (pre-68) priests, but I would go to the Ukrainian priests as well, I just haven't confessed to a Ukrainian priest in a long time, about 20 years ago or so. I have been blessed with having some old Roman rite priests in my area, making it easy. One by one they are passing away from old age, so my next and only option, if this is no longer possible, will be with be the diocesan Ukrainian priests who I believe possess jurisdiction to hear confessions.

Veronica, May I ask where you live? Maybe then we could all pull our sources together and find you a good place to receive the Sacraments. You are on the right track! Keep it up! God bless! Rita Rita, I live on the east coast. I am not comfortable sharing what City or State on the forum. If there are places on the east coast to receive Sacraments and it is not too much of a chore for a list, I would be open to looking at them. Thank you for your encouraging words! Veronica I sent you a Private Message with some lists... Let me know if there is anything else that I can do to help! God bless! Rita
