Can anyone help me find another church near me? I have a sspx church (Saint Thomas Aquinas Carson City) that comes twice a month, but I really need to go to confession and I wish I could go more. I will drive if I need to as I already make an hour drive to go to mass on Sunday. I am located in Coleville, ca which is a very rural area.I will make a longer drive if I need to.

Good evening, Clara. It was a pleasure to read in your other threads that you are returning to practicing your Faith. I have found something (even being in Britain, it is possible to find out these things if one is in the know), but I'm hesitant to recommend it to you as it's an independent chapel and I have not been able to find any information about the priest. I trust the source as concerns validity, but seeing as you have become confused before and are new to this, I think it best if you stick to going to the SSPX until you understand things better and it's been possible to find some information about the other place; you'll be safe with the SSPX. The problem with independent chapels is that they can be a bit hit-and-miss and one has to do one's research thoroughly. If the priest or laity encourage sectarian ideas (which I'm sure you've read about on this forum; the Dimonds are an example, though they are particularly bad), things may be demanded of you which are not reasonable; going to the SSPX may even be viewed as forbidden. If anyone on the forum knows about the scene in Nevada, perhaps they will be able to tell whether the independent chapel is alright.

I know of someone from Nevada who attends a chapel near Las Vegas, but that seems to be a long way from you. Carson City, Nevada looks to be a beautiful place to live.

I go to an Independent mission Church in York PA and they have an excellent very orthodox community and one of the most solid Priests I ever encountered.

I know there are independent chapels which are good, but I have no way of finding out whether this one is. The chapel is in Silver Springs and the priest is Fr Matthew Howard.

The chapel is under Thomas Sebastian, and for myself, I do not trust his episcopal orders, so by default, I wouldn't trust the orders of Matthew Howard. I would not recommend this chapel. stfrancisoratory.org/aboutus.html

For those wanting more information, you can find the episcopal lineage of Thomas Sebastian on Terry Boyle's website: www.tboyle.net/Catholicism/Costa_Consecrations.htmlHis lineage comes from the excommunicated and schismatic bishop Duarte-Costa who was excommunicated by Pope Pius XII, then to Luis Fernando Castillo-Méndez, then to John Christopher Simmons, who ordained and consecrated Thomas Sebastian. I have no idea if Bishop Simmons at the time of ordaining and consecrating Bishop Sebastian was even a Catholic, or if he was still part of a sect, so in addition to having issues with his orders, there are other problems.

Is that a mistake?
