They didnt say...but is there anything that could imply it? I was in a fb debate about the US constitution...I am of the opinion it is an over rated and possibly dangerous document...but its just an opinion...this person apparently holds the constitution to be holy writ even though they are self professed Catholics. I held that the 1st amendment alone is enough to dismiss it as non catholic document....and as a faithful Catholic I hold against it. They then said ( without citing specifics ) That Pope Leo disagrees with me.

It’s really up to them though to prove it, which they haven’t done.

I am being told that Leo 13 supported the seperation of Church and state Please weigh in as I am sure this is just someones interpritation of Leo and not Church teaching The relevant document on the topic is Pope Leo XIII's encyclical Immortale Dei, On the Construction of Christian States. www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiii/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_l-xiii_enc_01111885_immortale-dei.htmlFrom what I understand, Pope Leo XIII did not support the separation of Church and State. However, he did give certain allowances which if misquoted and not read with the whole document can be misconstrued as to him supporting it. From what I gather I think that he was merely trying to state the obligations of the faithful to follow the laws and rules of non-Catholic leaders as long as they did not contradict the laws of the Church. And that it was also allowable for even Catholic rulers not to force people in their countries to have to become Catholic and in that regard have certain liberties.
