This was a thread started by the illustrious Fleur over at the blueandwhiteforum...it was such an excellent discussion starter I thought Id nick it for TC (I dont think she would mind...I wonder if I could convince her to join

? )This isn't about income per say, maybe more about genealogy, but I was driving today and I was thinking about my own.
My parents are both factory workers from the rust belt. My dad was a machinist and worked his way up to buyer/planner at his factory, my mother worked there too eventually. We were top of lower class growing up. On my dad's side the Italian immigrants were coal workers while those who were German/English/Irish were farmers before that, some were tanners and traded with the Indians before Ohio was a state. Locally, my dad's family was really well established and branched out into various careers among my great uncles, some were judges, one was a surgeon, another was an artist. (Aren't history books great?!) As for my mother, her family has an extensive military background. Her German relatives were grocers initially and for a few generations in Ohio. I'm assuming there was a lot of farming involved as my Catholic grandparents converted some of the local Amish/Menonite population but I've never been able to figure out much about the family before they came from France. I suppose I should fill that gap in my knowledge.
