Beginning to rebuild and refortify my chicken coop before I get my new chickens. Did you catch the coon? no

Weeded out some of my flower beds. My least favorite gardening activity. I also need to spray against the invasion of Japanese Beetles; they are very hungry little pests.

Watered. This heat just about has my garden done in.

Between the heat, humidity, and starting third trimester (well, almost there, but close enough), my garden is in a very sad state. And, a fat, green caterpillar ate ALL the leaves off my pepper plants! I do have a few tomatoes on my vines, which will hopefully ripen nicely. I can always make green salsa if I need to....or, fried green tomatoes.

Checked on the blueberries. I think I have a problem with one of the bushes, it might be a disease, so I am going to spend some time researching. I probably need to do some book shopping to help me with the fruit trees a little more. We got our garden in late due to the raised bed guy being slow but it looks like the layers I put in were perfect in terms of fertilizer and compost. I have not had to use any other fertilizer and everything looks great.

Is the raised bed guy the same guy you married...lol Nope, which is why we hire him, husband has no time nor do we own the tools right now. We are working on it though, I just bought a sander.

It was 118 degrees in my backyard today. I watched the dead weeds shrivel up.

We've been picking some watermelons and cataloupes. Peppers, too. Other than that, with the relentless heat and no rain, our garden is pretty well toast. Once the melons are done, the only thing we'll bother taking care of is the peppers. What a sad year for gardening.
But there is the hope of redeeming myself with the fall garden! I'll enjoy the month long break, and then get started on it.

I finally put up some trellises that I had been meaning to do. Since the garden went in late, I didn't think it would produce anything but we are going strong on onions, cukes, and tomatoes.

I pickled my first ever jar of dill pickles, canned and froze beans, ripped out all the old lettuce, pulled onions to dry and will braid them next week. My son tilled.
