Haven't done a single thing for a week, since we haven't been home. We will be home late tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully, I will find a still thriving garden, and not a dead one! According to the weather radar, there was rain at my house during the past week, but we shall see....

According to the weather radar, there was rain at my house during the past week, but we shall see.... If you're like me, when you get home after being gone for awhile, you'll be amazed at how much everything has grown. That's one of my favorite parts about coming home- seeing the garden changes.

Rita, you should try your hand and making blueberry wine! The recipe I'm using calls for 15 pounds of blueberries.

Rita, you should try your hand and making blueberry wine! The recipe I'm using calls for 15 pounds of blueberries. Sounds delicious! We only have 3 bushes, and we usually are able to eat them all each season....either raw or in pancakes, muffins, and crisps. But, we hope to plant more, and there a many blueberry farms near us that we could visit and pick from.

Well, I inspected the garden today, and it looks like we didn't get as much rain as I'd hoped :/ my partial shade plants did fine, and have grown a ton (cucumbers, cantaloupes, watermelon), but my full sun plants look rough ((tomatoes and jalapenos). Kids and I found 7 nice cucumbers that ripened while we were gone. Not sure if my tomatoes and peppers will make it, but I will try to revive them with fertilizer and a good soaking tomorrow.

My son discovered some wild blueberries and a russula mushroom, which are not edible btw, and I'm doing a spore print to see if I can determine the type. I checked the blueberries I planted for pests too.

I would come to your blueberry party if I lived closer. The 3 tiny blueberry plants I planted this year died. What do you plan do do with all of your blueberries? Our blackberries are halfway ripe. Well, we freeze most of the blueberries and then use them in smoothies, pies, fruit roll-up, or crisps, later on during the year. We have been trying to encourage other friends and family to pick some of them though because there are only 5 of us left at home now, and we don't seem to be able to make it through all the berries we freeze anymore... Blueberry plants need lots of acidic soil. So, we planted ours under a couple big pine trees. The pine needles fall down every year to help create the proper soil environment. Sometimes we get cedar chips to help too though and keep the weeds down. This is helpful to know.

The lemon balm on was hard because I've usually seen the variegated kind, but mints are hard to determine from pictures anyways. I missed that one.

I also only knew about the same number, and picked the others at random...

Currently it is raining. We're forecasted to get quite a bit. I'm thanking God! Our garden was in real need of it.
When they baby goes to sleep I'll be heading out to the garden to pick the tomatoes that are near ripe so they don't split. I'll do some weeding at some point because weeding is easiest after a good rain.

Sorry about your tomatos and peppers, munda. I was surprised at the number of cucumbers I had on when I came back. I started a jar a fermented pickles, drank cucumber water yesterday, and made a cucumber salad with them.
