A very good friend of mine passed away a week ago from a sudden heartattack. He was a solid upright faithful practicing Catholic. A good man by any definition. He was 70 yrs old and still working at his job as an insurance agent. He left on the day of his death like he would any other workday. His wife (also as good a woman and faithful Catholic) was at home and saw him off as any other day. He told her that today he had a luncheon at midday for some office occasion. Both went about their day. Later in the morning, an hour before midday he came home. His wife was surprised and asked him why he was back so early...but immediately she saw he was in horrible distress. Helping into the house, removing his jacket she felt he was completly soaked in sweat. He was pale and he told her to call 911. As she was on the phone with emergency,he asked her to get his Rosary. Giving the beads to him he pressed them hard against his chest. Said to his wife "If there was ever anything I ever said or did to hurt you please forgive me...I love you." She said "Nothing at all my dear! I love you too" With that said he passed away right there with his wife by his side. When he became ill at work that day he could have driven himself to a hospital that was much closer than his home, but he chose to go to his wife. Would he have lived if he had? I dont know...but if he had died in hospital anyway...he could never have had this moment. A moment in my estimation I pray the Good Lord gives my wicked soul on my last moment. I ask all your prayers for David and his wife and grown children. The visable world is one less excellent Catholic man on its surface.

Just saw this now...
It brought tears to my eyes...
If only there was such a man in every town in the world...
Requiescat in pace!

I am very sorry for your loss. I had a friend pass in almost the exact same manner from a heart attack and he was only 37, but was with his wife until his last breath, with much the same words. As I read this I was reliving that time too, which has now already been 14 years ago. Prayers for comfort for his widow and peace for you through this loss.
