Dear Forum members,
Father mentioned that their is a difference between a felt and a wool scapular. Does anyone have both? Can someone post a comparision picture?
Thank you, David

Felt is fabric that has been 'felted'. Wool can be felted but not all felt is wool. When purchasing a scapular, it should say that it's made of wool, otherwise, don't buy it. Unfortunately, that makes it tricky when receiving one as a gift or a used one.

But to answer your original question, felted fabric looks matted, i.e. you can't see the weave of the fabric because all the fibers have been matted together. But I believe felted wool can be used as a scapular (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so it is confusing , if it is matted, to tell whether it's wool or not.

I read an article and it seemed to say that it must be woven wool. Apparently, it does matter to gain the indulgences. I wish I knew what a woven wool scapular definitely looks like compared to a felted wool, one.

Yes, the prescribed way to make a scapular is with wool. I don't know the reason, but there are other items that must be made a particular way, too.

I wish I knew what a woven wool scapular definitely looks like compared to a felted wool, one. In one of my rambling posts above, I described what woven wool looks like as compared to felt. With felt, you don't see the individual threads making up the weave, they're all kind of fused together. Woven wool looks woven, not fused. If you order a scapular online, it's going to say whether it's woven or felted.
