I'm new to sedevacantism and I was sent this video by a friend of mine who rejects sedevacantism as schismatic. In this long video, Rev Gregory Hesse discusses certain new cases of popes who taught error and also about 2 councils contradicting each other in their canons, regarding the orthodoxy of a few theologians. One praises them while the other condemns them as heretical. Aren't universal councils infallible in matters of faith and morals and how can the Church approve heretical theologians once and then condemn them?
I would like a sedevacantist to review the video step by step and if possible refute it! Some cases of Honorius, Liberius, etc have been repeated.
This is the video and the discussion about the condemnation of theologians and councils contradicting each other starts around 10 : 48 mark .

Hi Anthony, Could you please post the automatically generated transcript in full with the parts you want someone to address highlighted? Since captions aren't available for this video, you might try using this tool. Thanks, JL

The best refutation of this is Saint Robert Bellarmine's book "The Roman Pontiff". He explains about 40 different claims which people made about different popes being heretical and explains one by one why each of them was not true. I would recommend starting at book 4 Chapter 6. I was trying to find a free version on archieve.com and found this instead: novusordowatch.org/de-romano-pontifice-book4-chapters6-7/

To go though a video like this and refute it is a very time consuming task. It's easy for people to just assert things as though they are true, and video format allows for this much easier than written works. I will try to get to this soon, so keep checking back. I may have to get to it piecemeal, dealing with one of his assertions at a time in separate posts. Each one of these types of false charges needs its own thread actually, to finally put these matters to bed once and for all.

Im a big fan of Canon Hess and I can tell you ...from all his videos and talks Ive heard...he never really disrespects the sedevacantist position. He simply argued that from his point of view its simply erroneous. Further he was absolutly scathing against JP2 and the modernists..considered the novus ordo an abomination and so on. Also remember the Good Canon Hess never got to see bergoglio as he passed away. RIP ...But it would be interesting if he would continue to hold the same view.

Remember sedevacantism is an intellectual position with religious implications...it is not asserted as dogma...at least not in this group
