Hello everyone, God bless you, I have found a Capuchin priest ordained in 1959 in my area, he certainly says the novus ordo, but he still wears the Capuchin habit, he is the pastor of the Church of a small town far from the big cities, I hope That is a sign of something good.
Today I will make a visit with him and I am going to request a confession with him, I ask for his prayers so that everything goes well.
In Christ and Mary.
Thomas.

Pacelli, are there any concerns regarding the form/words used for confession in the Novus Ordo? This isn't something I've read anything about.

Pacelli, are there any concerns regarding the form/words used for confession in the Novus Ordo? This isn't something I've read anything about. I don't know much about the subject, I think Pacelli can delve into the theological part, but simply the formula pronounced by the priest "I absolve you" is the essence of the sacrament. That hasn't changed in the Novus ordo, so a priest ordained before 1968 validly absolves. What in the sedevacantist arguments is mentioned as invalid is because the ordinations in the modern rite are doubtful, therefore the priests ordained in this rite invalidly absolve, but not by the sacrament of penance itself. The words that accompany the formula "I absolve you" have been changing throughout the history of the Church, currently those words have changed in the novus ordo (I do not know if they changed them in some period where there were still Catholic bishops who approved those changes ), but they have not altered the essence of the sacrament that says "I absolve you." The same thing happens in baptism, they removed or left optional, the exorcised salt and various rites that accompany the sacrament, but the essential is still there, "I baptize you" etc etc
