A problem for Catholics in our times has been the disbanding of the Legion of Decency long ago. Without this Church sanctioned organization to review movies and help Catholics decide if they are morally safe, it is difficult for Catholics to navigate this on their own.
There is, however, a conservative Protestant group that reviews movies, the Dove Foundation, and a secular group, Common Sense Media, that reviews the morals of movies and tv shows. This is the closest we have to the Legion of Decency, and for those that haven't abandoned movies and shows completely should be aware of these resourses. I would strongly urge Catholic parents to check these two websites before letting your kids watch movies or shows.
Also, for those with more time on your hands, anyone can set up a Common Sense Media account to publicly review both movies and tv shows to help warm others of bad content. It's a work of charity to do this if you are aware of problems in shows or movies to warn others about them.
