I understand that Christopher Columbus is taking a beating in modern press and literature and that it is dishonest and calumniating, but at the same time I cannot accept the other extreme which claims him as a saint. Did he not father a child out of wedlock after his wife's death? He never married that woman, either. Are there miracles attributed to his intercession? Are there other things I don't know about?

I think there has long been talk of his canonization, but I've not heard any miracles attributed to him. I doubt that he will ever be canonized. I did not know that he fathered a child out of wedlock. Other than that he seemed like an upstanding fellow with lots of Christian Zeal. I've never thought of him as particularly saintly though.
