Can anyone give me a dummy's guide to the Divine Right of Kings? Fr. Jenkins here says (about 13:30) it was/is a Protestant construct. What is the view of it in Catholic circles? Thanks.

I cannot say too much, since I am neither a Philosopher nor a Theologian.
But I have heard that the Jesuits, such Cardinal Robert Bellarmine and Father Francisco Suarez, opposed the Divine Rights of Monarchs, and they had been writing back-and-forth with the British Kings.
I will go with the Jesuits.

Thanks for your input.
I wonder who first thought of the idea, what was his name, if he was a king himself?

Thanks for your input. I wonder who first thought of the idea, what was his name, if he was a king himself? Sorry, but I am not very sure about this. I will look it up. For deeper treatise on Divine Rights, please see Book III and Book VI of Defensio Fidei Catholicae Adversus Anglicanae Sectae Errores (Defense of the Catholic Faith Against the Errors of the Anglican Sect) by Father Francisco Suarez, SJ. God bless.
