Random thoughts: The library is a great source of free entertainment. Buy in bulk. I love my freezer.
The Tightwad books are good resources.

Taking the entire family to Egypt next week for 8 days on the Red Sea. 9 of us all inclusive in 5 star hotel. 4500 dollars including the flights. We will have the place to ourselves now. Ignore the scaredy cats and holiday in a terrorism hot-spot. You will save a fortune.

I'm sure we'll be just fine. Think of how many flights there are every day around the world where nothing happens. More chance of dying in a car crash on the way to the airport.
Been to Egypt before. Cairo is a hole, but elsewhere the people are pretty decent. Besides we are in a large hotel complex where the locals aren't allowed in
We're 600 miles south of Cairo on the Red Sea 20 miles south of Hurghada. It's like worrying about the gangs of Los Angeles when staying in Oregon.

We do the credit card rewards system, too. Even if we incur a late fee/finance charge here and there, overall we still make more in points than we spend in fees (since we pay in full and on time more often than not), so it's worth it for us. Our card also offers extra quarterly bonuses, but you do have to sign up for them. I get an email reminder, or I will check each time I pay the bill to see if I am due to sign up for extra perks. So, for all purchases we get 1% cash back. But, each quarter they offer an extra 3% cash back in 3 spending categories. So, for example, one quarter might be gas stations, restaraunts, and grocery stores (my favorite, as gas and groceries are a huge portion of our spending). Another might be flights, hotels, and rental cars. Or whatever. I also have the option of linking my rewards to my Amazon prime account, which I do. So, when I want something around the house, but it's not an immediate need, I'll save points and get it for free. You can also buy gift cards to various stores with your reward points. Sometimes, stores will offer their gift cards at discount prices, allowing you to save even more. So, Lands End might have a deal where you get a $25 gift card for $20 worth of rewards.
