Does anyone here follow a keto/primal/low carb eating plan? I'm trying to lower my carbs and am really struggling. I love pasta, bread, cookies...
Have you tried fat bombs? Do they help with the cravings? I'm in need of suggestions before I throw myself into a vat of brownie batter

In my experience, the first two weeks are the hardest. I do well when I write down everything and I can see how many carbs/calories I'm eating. The carbs because sometimes there is room for a small portion, and the calories because when I am very careful, I won't eat enough calories.

I ate super low carb for my whole life, i am type 1 so no bread dessert grains pasta except very special occasion. keto/paleo wasn't a thing then but it was keto-esque
still ended up sick as dog
the Mrs and my son also eat low carb because he is type 1 and my wife said that she was expecting her whole life to change when she completely cut out grains and gluten and it really didn't seem to do anything for her energy level (she was already thin and already a recovering anorexic fitnes nut) but it wasn't q game changer
i think for some it helps with weight loss and when you aren't obese anymore you feel a lot better
plus when overweighr people who aren't already eating lots of fruits and vegetables cut out grains they have to replace them with other foods any they end up eating more fruit/veggies/meat and other good stuff. so of course you're going to feel amazing

I've never heard of the keto diet. I've heard of paleo, but I've never actually looked into it that much. We follow basic Weston Price guidelines (WAPF) and it does kind of sound like yours, but ours doesn't frown too much upon bread, as long as it's whole and preferably sprouted and in moderation. We both really like it, and our hunger and cravings are generally more than satisfied on it. WAPF is big on consuming ample fats from good sources. Here they outline the differences between paleo and WAPF. WAPF can seem really rigid, and a bit snobbish about the whole grass fed thing. Actually, I don't think they "seem" that way. I think they really are, lol. Anyway, my husband and I aren't that way. We do prefer grass fed for the minerals and what not, but it is not always possible, and our budget is tight. I follow the WAPF recommendation for pregnant mothers, found here. I don't follow it hard and fast, because I can't stand liver, but I use it as my guide. For the most part, it's the type of food that I enjoy so it's not difficult for me. I do eat some dark chocolate during pregnancy despite it's reccomendation not to- I think it's beneficial. There are other "rules" that I break too. Despite the big emphasis on cosuming lots of good fat, WAPF, as far as I can tell in the time we've been using it, is an excellent way to maintain a healthy weight. It wouldn't seem that way with all of the fat in the diet. It took be quite awhile to program my mind away from "Fat makes you fat". Only some kinds of fat make you fat.

A Mediterranean diet is a healthy way to go. Note how I didn't capitalize the word 'diet' because it would imply a temporary measure, something just to lose a few pounds. It's just a good long-term way to eat.

Oh a red fine steak is a reminder of paradise b4 the fall man did not start eating the flesh of animals until after the fall. i was under the impression that the fact that people eat meat is a consequence of the curse God put upon the earth.

The Italians eat pasta, but often just as a side dish. Moderation is the key. We are coffee aficionados in my house.

Have you tried fat bombs? Do they help with the cravings? I'm in need of suggestions before I throw myself into a vat of brownie batter A couple of years ago my husband was diagnosed with cancer and he went on a ketogenic diet because there is some evidence that it can help with cancer. He was eating only 12 grams of carbs a day. I was able to make bread-like foods using almond and coconut flour that had minimal carbohydrates. I went on it with him, to keep him company. He had been overweight and this got him down to a healthy level for the surgery, so I think it is effective for weight loss. I do not think that many people could maintain such a low level of carbs long term. (My husband's tumour was discovered to be benign after surgery.) A typical low carb diet, like Atkins, has people eat around 50 grams during weight loss and then, once the target weight is achieved allows more (around 100g) for a maintenance diet. Primal diets are good for people who don't like measuring and counting. You just limit your food choices. It is mainly protein foods (meat, eggs, fish, etc) and vegetables. A good website for doing a primal type diet is Whole 30. It gives lots of information and support and gives lots of tips on dealing with cravings. One commits to following the diet strictly for 30 days and by the end many people have stopped having cravings.

BTW has anyone tried "Swerve" sweetener?

This is a recipe for a "bread" the right texture for sandwiches.
I eat just about anything, but my family liked this too, so perhaps others may like it.
I have also tried this very rich brownie cheesecake and thought it turned out well. This is something I would only make on special occasions.
I did not use Swerve (I don't know if it is even available in Canada. I haven't seen it.) I can't remember if I used erithritol or Krisda (Canadian equivalent of Truvia -stevia based sweetener.)
