Vox and Pacelli,
Thanks for the information in the previous thread regarding the way the communion spoons are being disposed of in the Ukrainian rite during Covid. I’m afraid that the other Eastern Catholic groups are not faring any better.
I have listed the major rites below and it seems that many of these have resorted to the sacrilegious novelty of “Communion in the Hand”. Some as I have noted, have even practiced this before the pandemic. I did not include the Armenian Catholics in my list below because I could not find info on their present practice of the reception of Holy Communion - except for those parishes in Canada which have practiced Communion in the hand for many years.

Not only have they mandated the sacrilegious “Communion in the hand” but it seems that the parishes above had the typical Novus Ordo “Sign of Peace” even before the pandemic.

Note that Maronite Catholics have had the option to take Communion in the hand long before the pandemic. (i.e. their liturgy is almost indistinguishable from a Novus Ordo “Mass” at a table complete with female acolytes in most North American parishes.

The Syro Malabar Catholics also permit the sacrilegious “Communion in the hand” as well as the Novus Ordo handshake of peace. The Malabars also conduct their liturgy on a Table.

Communion in the hand is indeed a sacrilegious novelty notwithstanding the comments from the Chaldean leader . The Chaldeans have been practicing communion in the hand well before the pandemic. They have also introduced conducting their liturgy on a Novus Ordo table for many years.

... The cardinal and the archbishop want priests to distribute communion in the hand, not on the tongue. Archbishop Bharanikulangara wants his priests to train their people to receive communion in the hand in a proper way. The Syro-Malabar Church normally discourages people receiving communion in the hand.

Cardinal Sako, head of Chaldean Catholic Church said:
....Giving communion in the hand is not a novelty, but an ancient church tradition. Many Fathers, like Saint Ephrem, speak of it. Most Orthodox Churches follow this practice. Undoubtedly, the desire of those who ask for communion must be respected, but priests must observe certain preventive measures.
