Now I may be able to run a decent forum...and I can hold my own in defense of the faith...but Im not nearly as informed or well instructed in the faith as I want to be. I am but a peasant Catholic doing the best I can. The reason for this little intro is some of my Rosary questions may seem like Cath 101 to many here...and I dont want you the members to be shocked by my ignorance. So here goes: Do you have to repeat the Apostles creed and the rest of the beginning of the Rosary as you move on to the next mysteries? Meaning when moving on from the Joyful to the Sorrowful to the Glorious etc? Do you have to say it out-loud when by yourself? Can you replace the Apostles Creed with the Nicean Creed when by yourself (Believe it or not I have the Nicean memorized but not the shorter Apostles Creed)? The Fatima Prayers when were they added and why...and what was said before that?

I don't see why it would matter which version that you used. I believe that to receive the indulgences it had to be both mental and vocal prayer, but I desire to be corrected if wrong.

For example on my drive home for work at night, I am usually on the glorious mysteries so I just start my Our Father on mystery one of the glorious mysteries without repeating the creed of the Pater and three Aves from before my first mystery of the joyful mysteries in the morning.

A priest told me that when alone, you at minimum must move your lips when said alone. I don't know about swapping creeds but I wouldn't do it myself, only because I believe the set way is with the Apostle's Creed. The Fatima prayer is not required. I've never been able to find much on the matter as far as citations or specifics from the Church. I've always said it as a matter of my devotion to Our Lady of Fatima because my understanding was that she requested it. I would certainly not be opposed or scandalized if someone did not include this in their rosary.

Yes, but it can be done quietly, or at least with your lips moving at a whisper. Can you replace the Apostles Creed with the Nicean Creed when by yourself (Believe it or not I have the Nicean memorized but not the shorter Apostles Creed)? No. If any prayers are changed, you will lose the indulgence. It must be done as proscribed by the Church. The Fatima Prayers when were they added and why...and what was said before that? Our Lady requested the "O My Jesus" prayer. I will have to look up when it was officially authorized by the Church.

It's humble of you to ask, Voxx. Good on you. The CMRI website has an excellent synopsis of the Rosary, neither too detailed or too basic. Towards the bottom it tells you the 15 promises of the Rosary. It is definitely a devotion worth doing. www.cmri.org/how-to-pray-the-rosary.shtmlThey also have a very handy guide on mediations for the Rosary. This of course is not required, but it sure is helpful. www.cmri.org/traditional-15-rosary-meditations.shtmlI would also add that getting enrolled in the brown scapular is something worth doing. IMO, praying the Rosary and wearing the brown scapular are 2 of the most efficacious ways our Lady gives us to get to heaven.
