I am having a serious episode of grinding my teeth and clenching my jaw. Consequently, it is causing a host of problems for me, making it difficult to function throughout the day. Please pray that this will clear up and that I can do what I need to do to lessen the problem.

I will pray for you. Oddly enough, I've been struggling with jaw clenching, and subsequent jaw pain, lately, too.

I had a friend who used to have to wear a mouth-guard at night...
Have you considered drinking a glass of wine before bed-time? It might help your to relax more and might help with the tension... Not sure though...
I shall be praying...

Yes, I do drink a lot of caffeine, depending on the day and how much sleep I get. Bruxism is something my mother, sister, and I all suffer from. I think it is triggered by stress or things bothering us. We all suffer from migraines too.

It also said too much caffeine is not good for it. SenoritaRita mentioned to try drinking a glass of wine before bed-time which would probably help with the stress. If most of your family deals with it you probably already know this anyway. Good luck.

Sometimes the cause of Bruxism is not immediately apparent. When you wrote that you, your mom, and your sister have the same tendency I thought of food additive intolerance; the current medical trend dictates that everything is caused by 'genetics', but that isn't always the case. We often eat the same things our parents/family do. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is a common culprit in headaches and teeth-grinding but there are other food additives that could be a factor, and stress will exacerbate things. There are more resources than this one, but this is the first one I pulled up on Google: fedup.com.au/factsheets/symptom-factsheets/teeth-grindingHope this helps-
