This is a great topic because it can be done by people living anywhere with any size lot, in nearly any condition. I remembered red that I wanted to plant walking onions this afternoon, which lead to a search, and I found this website... www.egyptianwalkingonion.com/index.htm

I've always wondered about walking onions. That webpage is very informative. I might ask my husband if he's interested in planting some.
We recently bought a couple lots of land outside of town. Finances won't allow us to move out there for quite some time, but in the meantime we're planting a "food forest" out there that will be ready for us when we arrive. Walking onions would fit in well there.
We've got a couple fruit trees planted. Within in the next few weeks I'll be planting blackberries, rhubarb, asparagus, horseradish, raspberries and a couple other exotic bushes (that I doubt will survive, but they sound cool). In the fall we'll plant more fruit trees, elderberries and gooseberries.
Both my husband and I are of the mind set that mowing a yard is a big waste of our time. If we're going to work in our yard, we may as well be able to eat from it, or at least pick flowers to put in the house. Besides a big garden at the new lots, we'll be growing wheat, oats, and sorghum.
