My baby (dog) has a cracked paw pad. Research on the internet says to clean well, put a salve on it (bag balm, vaseline or coconut oil) and put a sock over it. Anyone have any experience with this? Poor guy is not loving his sock. He's being good and leaving it alone but looks absolutely humiliated by the whole experience.

I don't have actual experience with dogs but if he was human I would also use colloidal silver on it to prevent infection.

This sounds like what a friend of mine had to do for his dog, except that the he took the dog to the vet, and the vets put the sock/tape wrap on the dog and told him what to do afterwards. Baby socks usually work really well, and then wrap it with sports tape on the top to keep the dog for getting it off too easily. What type of pup do you have? I love dogs, but haven't had one in awhile...

My family has had this happen to a few of their livestock guardian dogs. They didn't do much for it other than put some tea tree oil on it and let come what may. It was usually fine in 2 or 3 days.

It's much better today. I let him leave the dreaded, humiliating sock off when he went out this morning. I just checked it and it seems fine. Thanks all!
