I'm looking for information on Bone Marrow Donation.
1. I don't think the church has any problem with this since it is a lot like donating red cells in that your body is continually replenishing itself but if anyone knows otherwise please correct me.
2. I have read online but don't see anything about pregnancy or expected pregnancy. I assume pregnant women cannot donate cells but can I still register? Should I register or are you required to not be pregnant if your number is called? I have no idea. I started the registration process online but then the site froze or something and I thought maybe I should wait.

Since Voxx has included "organ" in the title I thought I'd mention how previously you couldn't donate a liver being that it was a vital organ, but now you can (part of one anyway). I read this article a little while back and thought it was very sweet. Liver Transplant

i was told that bone marrow donation is perfectly fine,it is like donating blood. I had a stemcell transplant several years ago...unfortunately it almost killed me nearly died of sepsis. was part of a clinical trial. am the only patient who is still alive. A good friend of mine with the same genetic illness died during the process.
i have no idea about pregnancy

The actual screening for a donation is a long process and would not even be begun until a potential patient in need is identified. I registered over 20 years ago and at the time I lived close to Stanford University so registered with them. All I did was go in and they took a blood sample for an initial profile. Haven't heard a peep from them ever since.
The harvesting of bone marrow is very expensive process and only done when a match is determined. It is done under general anesthesia and in an operating room.
Go ahead and do the application and just take it from there. Probably the most you'll have to do is give a blood sample. Even if you are ever contacted as a potential match for someone in need you would still undergo many other tests before the actual harvest of your marrow.

I read that now they take the cells through the antecubital just like donating RBCs or platelets; no drilling into the hip bone I know a few people now who have benefited from stem cell transplants and thought it may be worth it. I think I'm going to go ahead with it.

I'm now wondering if multiparous women would not be encouraged to donate because of the increased HLA antibodies in their bodies but maybe they can be all filtered out.
I'm going to sign up anyway...They can tell me if it ever gets that far.
