For Joseph Ratzinger Oh God of all spiritual and corporeal beings, You trampled death, broke the power of Satan and granted life to the whole world. Now, O Lord, grant also rest to the soul of Your departed servant Joseph in a place of light, freshness, and peace, where there is no pain, sorrow, or mourning. As a gracious God and loving mankind, forgive him every transgression committed by him in word, deed, or thought, since there is no man alive who has not sinned. You alone are without sin and Your justice is everlasting justice, and Your word is always the truth. For You are the resurrection, the life and the rest of Your departed servant Joseph, Oh Christ our God, and we render glory to You, together with Your Eternal Father, and Your most Holy, gracious, and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen. (Prayer Attributed to St. John Chrysostom)

Novus Ordo Watch did a good post on this here: novusordowatch.org/2022/12/benedict16-dies-in-vatican/If one scrolls down to the section on “inconvenient truths” about him, it’s a good reminder to anyone who creates an inaccurate narrative arguing that he was thinking and behaving as a Catholic before and during his “pontificate”. Many conservative Catholics who believed he was a Pope suffer from this delusion as they have not or will not look at who he really was in his words and actions. Anyway, with all of that said to keep the record clear, I hope for his sake that he repented in his final years and hope that enough prayers for him went up for his conversion to happen and for God’s mercy to have been upon him at his judgment.

I hope his final thoughts and moments were of repentance and desire for salvation as a member of the Church. I do not think it is possible to know either way due to his stated beliefs and works.

There is no doubt of his heresy..and non papacy.. but there is no sin in praying for him and hoping he repented in the long twilight dieing he was given by the Grace of God. I hope to get such time for preperation of my own demise. Treating JR with respect on his passing is in my view the Catholic position....not respect for his horrible career...but respect for the Beauty of the Catholic way of seeing death. Of the subject of the death of the most profligate sinners who at last rest in Catholic sacraments. None of us heard his deathbed confession...and it would be absurd to assume he didnt have one...a valid one. Was there ever a Time when JR was in fact a good Catholic? I can only assume there was. In those times did he practice the Faith and partake of indugences and true devotions to Our Lady? I have heard it said that one Rosary devoutly said will bring the Virgin to even a sinners death bed. Fine call me a sentimentalist...but I also actually believe that many of our devotions are eternally recorded...and do not always require us even remembering them done. So yeah I officially refuse to condemn JR to Hell and I think NO Watch shows a lack of Charity and just ill manners in pouncing right away. Kinda grifty in fact ( just my useless opinion) They should and will Im sure point out his ( JR) unfittness for sainthood...but they could give it a week out of respect for basic Catholic decency.

I think it would be good and charitable to pray for the repose of his soul...
But as to him receiving valid last Rites I highly doubt it. People usually live as they die. He surrounded himself with modernists throughout his life rather than good priests and clergy. It is likely he died in a similar way.

what is the requirement for a valid last confession? Valid priest, valid absolution and firm purpose of amendment. My concern is that he probably didn't have any valid priest to absolve him as he surrounded himself mostly with invalid priests during his lifetime and might not have cared anyways. But he could still make a perfect act of contrition regardless. 😇🙏

seeing how the bergoglians treated JR funeral rites and traditions...and even basic formalities I am convinced he did not die one of them.

Wow, that is pretty horrid treatment by the Vatican officials. Makes you start wondering whether they really did pressure him to resign in the first place.
