For years I have been wanting to have a Jesse tree for Advent.
The basic idea is having on the Christmas tree the names of all of Our Lord's ancestors who are mentioned in the Bible.
This year we decided to get an early start and make name tag ornaments for the advent tree ourselves. We just finished today!

We don’t have a separate tree but we have the ornaments and add them to our tree when the “O Antiphons“ begin.
They are a fun thing to do though, it makes you think of how long the world waited and yearned for Our Lord.

I made a Jesse tree for our family about five years ago. One of the difficulties with this was finding a version of the daily readings that didn't reference protestant versions of sacred scripture. Which schedule of readings are you following @ritamarita?

We just figured that we would put them on the Christmas Tree without other ornaments kind of as a reminder of Christmas coming.

I made a Jesse tree for our family about five years ago. One of the difficulties with this was finding a version of the daily readings that didn't reference protestant versions of sacred scripture. Which schedule of readings are you following @ritamarita? The ones we made aren't readings just name tags with every name from the Genealogy of Christ from Adam, Seth etc. through Saint Joseph the Blessed Mother and then Our Lord. We musts have made about 70 or more cards with construction paper, laminated them with packaging tape, used a hole puncher and put yarn strings through them. I wish I could share a picture but unless the picture is on the internet somewhere or it is really small I don't seem to be able to share it. That being said... My mother did have made an advent calendar (cloth one with homemade pinned labels) that we used growing up with short Bible Readings for each day. We inherited it and have it in an advent calendar box that we put on the wall with little doors to open for each day and pull out the labels with the readings. We haven't been consistent with the advent readings in the past couple years because of the little boys. But I am hoping we will be able to do better this year. :-)

Oo! I need to get a copy of that! Thanks for mentioning it! 🤓 Look up her other titles too, they are excellent. They provided me with the foundation and inspiration that I needed to build a Catholic culture in our home. It is pretty nice to see your kids become adults and get excited about the liturgical year.
