Interesting.
The 'Russians' don't even have Cardinal Siri receiving ONE solitary vote!
'No mention' of the double-white-smoke.
(And where/when did Greeley break the seal of the Conclave and reveal this count?)
(Talk about 'revising history' (a.k.a. Stalin-style)!)

Pope Pius XII died 9 October 1958 in , Castelgandolfo, in the papal summer residence near Rome, after a 19-year pontificate. Pope Pius XII was one of the most controversial popes of Rome, beginning with his namesakes of popes Pius IX (1846—1878) and Pius X (1903—1914), the last Pius XII canonized. Pius began a series of liturgical reforms in the mass, which in some ways were the precursors of the alterations carried out at the second Vatican Council. Pius XII was criticized for his position in the period of the Second world war, accusing him that he openly opposed the policy of genocide mode Adolf Hitler, and that he has not actively tried to help Jewsfleeing Nazi persecution. Many Church leaders stated that the crisis, which came the Catholic Church, and many assumed that the required solution to this crisis. Pius XII was a consistent anti-Communist and the Communists were excommunicated from the Church.
The case of Giovanni Montini
Giovanni Montini was one of the favorites of the Curia in the 1930s and 1940s and the likely successor to Pius XII. Many assumed that a skilful diplomat and Deputy Secretary of state will be made a cardinal on one of the consistories Pius XII. When Pius XII during the 14 years there was a vacant post of Secretary of state — with the exception of five years when the Secretary of state was cardinal Luigi Malone, Pius XII directly acted as his own Secretary of state. Montini was a favorite of Pope Pacelli. Suddenly, in 1955 Pius XII was fully removed Montini from the Curia and made him Archbishop of Milan, one of the oldest metropolises in Italy, from which came a [popes. Invariably the Milanese archbishops were cardinals at the next Consistory. But it was, surprisingly, this hasn't happened with Montini. Pius XII, gave a cardinal's hat Montini.
There are two explanations for this unusual decision. It was assumed that the Pope had already offered Montini cardinalist in 1953, but it was rejected. It has never been proven. It was also assumed that sister Pasqualina Lenart, a nun, who ran the household of the Pope, since the days when he was Apostolic Nuncio in Bavaria, harbored a strong dislike for Montini.
Papa Pacelli had deteriorated in the 1950-ies, especially due to the questionable treatment he received from the so-called doctor that Pius XII trusted. Evil tongues in the Curia and outside it, claimed that sister Pasqualina Lenart had a significant impact in recent years of the pontificate of Pius XII (some ridiculed it as papess), and detractors used her position to configure Pius XII against Montini.
The alternative version was still in that Montini denied the red hatbecause his colleague, the second Deputy Secretary of state Monsignor Domenico Tardini, had already rejected cardinalist. Montini felt that he could not accept the dignity of cardinal, while the home team had a cardinal's hat. And Montini and Tardini became cardinals only after the death of Pius XII.
Papal Conclave
The Conclave was held from 25 on 28 October 1958to elect a successor to Pius XII. In the absence of popular Montini, papabili was included Armenian cardinal Gregory Aghajanian and young conservative cardinal Giuseppe Siri.
The election of Roncalli
As in many papal Conclaves, chose a compromise candidate, since none of papabile not passed, the choice suddenly fell on the diplomat, cardinal Angelo Roncalli, Patriarch of Venice. The choice of Roncalli was a surprise for everyone, especially for Roncalli, who arrived in Rome with a return train ticket to Venice and hoped for a short Conclaveso that he could return home.
Roncalli, was elected on the 11th ballot, and took the name John XXIII, a name not used since the XIV century. His reign was short, Dad was called "Good Pope John" because he deserved love and touched the hearts of non-Catholics and Catholics with his warmth, kindness, humility and sense of humor. Its impact is shown in one example, when an ardent anti-Catholic Belfast municipality decided to lower the flag over the building of the municipality in his honor after his death.
