Friends,
I'm having a little party for my oldest turning 3. We'll have about 10 kids ranging from 20 months to 4 years. I'm out of my element, here! We are going to have cake and drinks, and I'd like to do some little activity but don't know what yet. It would need to be simple and short because everyone is pretty young. Pinatas are so fun, but I'm thinking they might be a bit young for that? Same with musical chairs- too young.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me? What have you done for birthdays with your children that went over well? I'm looking for ideas that are not elaborate and won't cost a lot of money.
Many Thanks! Jen

Rolling balls to knock over slightly filled water bottles is fun and easy. Whoever hits the most wins a treat!

Make birthday cakes and frosting from scratch. It will save you money, they will taste better than a grocery store and most bakeries, and kids will appreciate that mom made it with TLC.
Its a little bit of a learning curve to learn how to bake and frost, and you may have to have some practice cakes before the party to get good at its along with some cake wrecks, but in the long run, it’s a great life skill that will save you a boat load of money over the years.

When I was growing up, I did. My mother made the best cakes, she never used boxed mixes or grocery stores. I didn’t know better when I was young, I thought all cakes tasted so good, as I had nothing else to compare it too, but when I got older, I remembered and appreciated it. My kids also are all spoiled by my wife who bakes their birthday cakes from scratch every year. They don’t even eat anything else other than homemade from scratch. It’s one more reason among so many others that they love and appreciate their mom.

I had intended to do this, but I did not plan well enough and ended up using a mix. I did however use homemade frosting. Box mixes are always such a disappointment. I've often thought to myself that I'd like to learn to do fancy cake decorating. I made 200 homemade cupcakes for my wedding reception and decorated all of them myself and the romantic idea of cake decorating became pretty sour for me at that point, lol! That was 4 1/2 years ago and I'm just now starting to feel the desire to pick up where I left off. God bless your sweet mother, Pacelli.
