So I had a long debate on FB with a person who asserted against my assertion that Others besides Catholics can be Christians...and that Catholics are only Christians in Potential not in fact. That Catholicism is merely the most effective way to Salvation through Christ but certainly not exclusive to the Church. Of course we both were not discussing invincable ignorence...nor miraculous deathbed conversions. Interestingly after a long drawn out discussion which seemed to go no where I found this video:
Now my facebook debate opponent seemed to be peddling the same claptrap the Horrid Father Barron was spewing. Eventually though my opponents argument ended up boiling down to my misunderstanding the Church because unlike him...I was not a Mystic. He said I am a Mystic so I see things differently. Well of course he would. He was a good sport...tried some ad hominems but was never particularly nasty. And as it headed into the early morning and after an enjoyable hours long romp through fallacious fields I called it a night...but not without inviting him to join us here. I wasnt really expecting he would join...but he did...and Im glad. So I am starting this thread to continue what I thought was valuable in it was showing a gray area between knowledge and intuition...between coming by faith through externals...or through direct revelation by God (an avenue he asserted he possessed...and I could too if I only "grew and listened")Dont worry I see the problem with this assertion. Anyway I will link this to him on Facebook and hope he continues the discussion on Catholics and Mysticism. Its true place and its dangers and outright errors. He took the name here not surprisingly of mystic. Welcome him as he is here with my personal invitation.
