A few months ago, my husband began the project of extending our back patio. It was small area, and it got to be very crowded when we all wanted to sit out there together....everyone was on top of one another. Anyway, after months of red clay EVERYWHERE, my husband finally got the concrete for the poured this morning . I'm super excited to go see the finished result, and to no longer have the kids tracking red dirt all over the place.. The kids and I drove to my Mom's yesterday for Mother's Day, and will head home tomorrow morning, so we haven't seen it, yet. Next step is to add the patio cover, a picnic table, and a ping pong table....and hopefully a dart board on the wall! It'll be a great outdoor family area, and a nice spot when we have company over. My husband is also going to eventually build an outdoor, brick fireplace....but, that's a long term goal. For now, we can just enjoy the extra space Wow! That sounds amazing! I wish I knew how to pour cement and everything...

Our next big project is remodeling the livingroom. My husband is going to build a book case that covers one whole side of the wall. We'll tear down wall paper, patch some parts in the wall, paint, and put carpet down. I'm so reluctant to start, because I don't want the living room to be in shambles for a long time. I'm hoping that's not the case! It'll be nice when it's done! We re-arranged and painted our living room a little over a year ago, in honor of our family Enthronement to the Sacred Heart...we needed a place for a home altar. It was a fun project. Some of the big kids got to help paint, and they loved it. Book cases along one living room wall are next on my honey-do list Our enthronement of the sacred heart is in our living room as well. I hadn't thought of it until reading your post, but we'll probably be painting the altar as well.

I'm using my own, I guess, but I can't really take credit for the design. I copied it off of a skirt that I bought from a thrift store that I really liked, but added some different elements to suit my taste. It's a very easy pattern- just sewing some triangles together and making a waist.

I have been making most of my own skirts for the past 5 years or so, but for some reason I have a hard time following a pattern, and find it easier to follow an idea in my head... I do sort of what you do with the triangles. I really like A-Line Skirts!

If I could go back in time, I would tell my younger self to do more sewing as a new wife. I enjoy sewing, and I have the know-how, but with littles around, I simply don't have the opportunity all that much anymore. I wish I had honed my skills more, when I had the chance, so I could sew faster. I see people online make a skirt in under an hour, which would take me atleast twice that time, because I don't have enough practice. Sewing is a lost art....hopefully I can successfully pass it on to my girls, and maybe one day sew more for my grand babies

I don't follow the technical information because it would take me too long to make them that way. My sewing skills are pretty basic, but they are sufficient. Maybe a thread with sewing tips, tricks and pics should be somewhere in the near future! I like A-line skirts too. The trinagles are so easy, and so flexible, too. With them, you can make the skirt as full as you'd like.

I only gave it a half-hearted attempt in my home-ec class is highschool. I've wished the same as you, that I would have honed my skills earlier- and I only have 1 baby! (With one on the way). It's not the sewing that takes so much time with me, but the measuring, cutting, changing thread, bobbins, etc. It all adds up! I wish sewing wasn't such a lost art- it's so sad! I've decided that my girls will learn weather they are interested or not. It's a skill that is important for women to have for family life.

And there's so many supplies that need to be taken out and put away to sew. Really, I would like a craft room that I could lock the kids out of, so I could just leave stuff out, and work on it when I have time. I didn't realize you were expecting...congratulations! When are you due?

I didn't realize you were expecting...congratulations! When are you due? January. It's a long way out yet! This ones due date is just days away from our first daughters birthday. So for a few days each year, they may be the same age! I think that's so fun, lol.
