We play "The One Sentence Story", we go around to everyone in the car and they must add one sentence to a story. Depending on how many are in the car we limit it to 4 "turns" per person but do more if there are fewer kids. It gets very silly very quickly.
Any other suggestions?

We just took a trip and played lots of car games that I purchased from Amazon. One was Family Feud cards, there were a few that were irrelevant to our life so we skipped those. We also sometimes buy trivia games and just bring the cards. We also bought a pad of car games which are like rip out sheets of different games, like paper golf, dots, etc.
My favorite is the License Plate Game, it's classic.

Our favorite game was called "Railroad". The first person spells railroad, and the next person spells a word that begins with the last letter of the previous word, which would be "d" in this case. If someone spells a word that ends in R the first person to say railroad wins, or when going over a railroad, the first to say railroad wins. It's a good way to practice spelling.
We also like to play 50 states. Pretty easy- just name all 50 states. You might be surprised how even the adults get stuck at 49 states!
And of course, 20 questions. I'm sure everyone is familiar with that game- where you think of something and everyone has 20 questions to figure it out.

I play one in my head that I call "please stop screaming before dad has a panic attack and we crash into the back of an oil tanker"
It's a tad macabre, but keeps me aware.

I think I'd have an easier time getting my baby to endure a root canal on one of her four teeth than I would getting her to take an hour long nap.

I can only say I am terribly sorry, and to give your wife my condolences! Mine has resisted sleep since day one in every way shape and form. To each their own I guess. I just hope she has not inherited my sleep problems.

1. We often played "Yellow Car I Win!" or "Score" and kept track of who saw how many yellow cars first and claimed them as their own. At the end of the trip we would count up the tallies and find out who the winner was!
2. Another fun game is the alphabet game. Everyone has to find every letter of the alphabet outside the car in alphabetical order. Some letters are difficult and hard to find like finding Q on a "Dairy Queen" sign or a place like "Quantico". I still enjoy this game on car trips!
3. Sometimes we would guess what state a car was from before we were close enough to pass it or have it pass us. Eventually. you can tell which state a car is from merely the colors of a license plate in a distance!
