Wow! I grew up singing this poem as a Christmas song with my siblings. They are the only ones I've ever heard if who know the song. It's nice to know we're not alone!

Just some more info I see on Youtube... Surely it has a well known French composer: The Huron Carol is Canada's oldest Christmas song, written around 1642-43 by Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit missionary at Sainte-Marie among the Huron Indians in Canada. Brébeuf wrote the lyrics in the native Iroquoian language of the Huron/Wendat people. The song's melody is based on a traditional French folk song, "Une Jeune Pucelle" (A Young Maid). That's it! To the note! I used to sing this with my siblings every Christmas. We even sang it for some non-Catholic strangers who were interested in our mention of the song; They were fascinated. I haven't heard it since that day.
